What are custom AI connectors?

A custom AI connector links Mitti to a tool outside the connector library so your agents can use it while they run. Custom connectors work with any service that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI tools to other services. For most services, you only need a name and an endpoint URL, and Mitti sets up the rest of the connection.

After you install a custom connector, it works like any other AI connector. When you edit an agent, you can add the connector and choose which of the connector's tools the agent can use.

Browse the Connector library before you add a custom connector. If the library already includes the connector you want, you can install it directly, and Mitti maintains the connection for you.

Mitti connects only to public endpoints. If the MCP endpoint URL points to a private or internal-only network address, such as a server inside your organization's network, the connection will not proceed.

Install a custom connector

  1. Log in to the web app (opens in new tab).

  2. Click your organization name on the lower-left corner of the page and select Integrations.

  3. Click AI Connectors tab at the top of the page.

  4. Click Install, and then select Custom connector.

  5. In the pop-up window, enter the following details:

    • Connector name: The name people see in your connector list and when they add the connector to an agent. Use the service's name or what it's for.

    • MCP endpoint URL: The web address of the service's MCP server, which Mitti sends requests to. You can find it in the service's developer documentation. It starts with https://.

  6. Select a connection type:

    • Managed by organization: You sign in once, and everyone in your organization uses that connection.

    • Individual sign-in: Each person signs in with their own account and can only reach what that account can access.

  7. If a service requires manual setup, enter its connection details:

    1. Click Advanced settings and turn "Automatic setup" off.

    2. Click next to "Mitti callback URL", then add the URL to the app you register in the service.

    3. Enter the following details:

      1. Authorization URL: The address of the service's sign-in page, where people approve Mitti's access.

      2. Token URL: The address Mitti uses to get and renew access after someone signs in.

      3. Client ID: The identifier the service gives you when you register Mitti as an app.

      4. Client secret: The private key that comes with the client ID. After you add the connector, Mitti shows that a secret is set but never displays it again, so keep a copy in a safe place. To replace it, enter a new one.

      5. Scopes: The permissions Mitti requests in the service, such as openid email. Separate each scope with a space, and use the scope names from the service's developer documentation.

  8. Click Add connector. Your connector appears on the AI Connectors tab, ready for someone to add it to an agent.

Uninstall a custom connector

Uninstalling a connector removes it for everyone in your organization and deletes every sign-in stored for it, including each user's individual sign-in. To stop an agent from using a connector while keeping everyone's sign-ins, remove the connector from that agent instead.

  1. Log in to the web app (opens in new tab).

  2. Click your organization name on the lower-left corner of the page and select Integrations.

  3. Click AI Connectors tab at the top of the page.

  4. In the "Installed connectors" section, click Manage next to the connector.

  5. In the pop-up window, click Uninstall.
